Count Down
Count Down is a deck-building roguelite. You play as the Count, a vampire lord, and you are starving. Unfortunately, you also live in a castle atop a very high mountain, and there isn't a single tasty human in sight. That's where you, the player, come in: you must help the Count get down* the mountain by slinging cards and harvesting the abilities of anyone you meet along the way to rack up as many points as you can. But watch out! You only have until the end of the night**, so you better plan your moves carefully.
* Count, down. Get it? Why yes, I did create an entire jam game around this pun. Thank you for asking.
** It turns out there is also a literal countdown in the game. Who would have thunk?
How to Play
Each turn, you start with 5 cards in hand and 4 energy. You can play a card by clicking on it. Cards cost energy to play, indicated by the number in the top left. Each card has an effect when you play it, like moving a few spaces down the trail, gaining additional resources like cards and attack power, and more! You'll discover more powerful cards the more you progress down the mountain.
One of the most important resources to acquire is attack power. Each space on the board has a character, either animal or human, with two numbers above it. The number on the left is its value: the number of points you get for collecting that character. The number on the right is its strength: the amount of attack power you need to spend in order to claim it. When you're on the same space on the trail as a character, you can click on it to spend attack power and claim it. When you claim a character you will get its points, and a card which represents its abilities. The card will be automatically added to your discard, and will be later shuffled into your deck.
- If you want to claim a character but don't have enough attack power, you can click to kidnap it. You will gain a Bound version of the card which you can claim later when you have more attack power.
- You can't claim characters if you're not on the same space as them.
- When you've drawn all of the cards in your deck, your discard will be automatically shuffled back in, so you'll be able to draw any newly claimed cards
Some of the more interesting characters have Oath cards. Once you defeat such a character for the first time, you will unlock the option to start your run with its card in your deck, to give your run a boost. Try defeating different kinds of characters to see what kind of oath cards you can unlock!
